The Intervention Unit of the Agency for Rural Affairs purchases all barley and wheat offered for intervention that meets the criteria of intervention. Intervention storage ensures that cereals produced in the EU can be sold. The price paid is an institutional intervention price. From the intervention stocks cereals are sold on the internal or export market through competitive tendering procedure. Intervention storage of cereals is part of the common agricultural policy of the EU.
