The total volume of agricultural support, rural development support and market support in Finland is approximately two billion euros. We pay support directly to recipients and to rural projects via Leader groups in accordance with the decisions of municipal cooperation areas and ELY Centres. Market support is paid directly to recipients.

Farming support comprises the majority of annual support payments. Support is paid to farmers according to the arable area, number of animals/livestock units or quantities produced. Farming support consists of payment schemes funded in full by the EU (direct support), support partially funded by the EU, and national support.

Rural development is supported by both national and EU funds. Start-up support for young farmers, business and project support, special environment support and some investment support are paid from the Rural Development Programme for Mainland Finland, a programme funded in part by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD). Business plan support and most agricultural investments are funded under national support schemes.
